Katana by Harima Daijō Tadakuni, a Hizen school smith who worked for the Ogi domain, a branch of the Nabeshima house of Saga. According to the original seller, it is one of his relatively rare works in suguha, as he mostly forged chōji midare. The blade is shinogi-zukuri with iori-mune, a fairly deep sori and an extended chū-kissaki; the photographs show carvings on both sides: bonji and hatahoko on the omote; bonji, gomabashi and tsume on the ura. The seller describes a ko-itame jigane with dense ji-nie and chikei, and a chū-suguha hamon with ko-ashi, ko-nie, kinsuji and sunagashi, with a bright nioiguchi. The tang is ubu, with ō-sujikai yasurime and a kengyō tip; the photographs show one mekugi-ana. Signed 肥前住播磨大掾藤原忠国 (Hizen-jū Harima Daijō Fujiwara Tadakuni) and dated 寛永十八年二月吉日 (Kan'ei jūhachi-nen nigatsu kichijitsu). It comes with a shirasaya and an uchigatana koshirae with a lacquered koshi-kizami saya: gold shishi menuki, an iron tsuba with waves, plovers and hōju in gold and copper zōgan, iron fuchi-kashira and kojiri with gold nunome-zōgan, and a bahari with autumn insects.
