Signed katana by Kanesada, a Mino smith of around the Genroku era, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers, an intact tang, a mounting bearing a family crest, and a shirasaya.
Katana by Kanesada, a smith of Mino province who, according to the original seller, worked in the mid-Edo period and also forged in Owari. The NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper, shown in the photographs, places the work in Mino around the Genroku era (1688–1704). According to the listing, the blade measures 69.2 cm in nagasa, with 2.1 cm of sori, a motohaba of 2.8 cm and a sakihaba of 1.9 cm. The photographs show a tang with its original shape and tip intact, a single mekugi-ana, and the signature 野田五郎藤原金定 (Noda Gorō Fujiwara Kanesada) on the omote; the ura bears no inscription. The piece comes with both a mounting and a shirasaya, each visible in the photographs. The mounting combines a tsuka of pale same with purple silk wrapping, dark metal menuki, a round iron tsuba with two gilt inlays of a mon, the same crest on the fuchi, and an aubergine-toned lacquered saya with a granular finish. The original seller neither describes nor dates the mounting, nor states the condition of the blade.
