Katana signed by the sixth-generation Ōmi no Kami Tadayoshi of the Hizen school, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers, koshirae and shirasaya.
Katana by Ōmi no Kami Tadayoshi, sixth generation of the Hizen school. According to the original seller, he was the son of the fifth Tadayoshi, and the blade belongs to the Tenmei era (1781). The shinogi-zukuri blade has a nagasa of 70.2 cm and a sori of 1.4 cm; the original seller gives a motohaba of 3.05 cm and a sakihaba of 2.25 cm. The tang, which the photographs show intact with a single mekugi-ana, is signed on the omote 肥前国近江守忠吉 (Hizen no Kuni Ōmi no Kami Tadayoshi); the ura carries no inscription. The NBTHK awarded it Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken, and the photographed origami (no. 1026639, Reiwa 8) attributes the signature to the sixth generation. The photographs show the blade stored in its shirasaya, together with a handachi-style koshirae: a dark red lacquered saya with relief arabesques and dark metal fittings edged in gold, a mokkō tsuba engraved with karakusa, a tsuka with same and black wrapping, and gilt menuki. The original seller neither describes nor dates the mounting, and the listing says nothing about the condition or polish of the blade.
