Shintō katana of the Hizen school, signed by Harima Daijō Tadakuni, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers, a mounting with Sendai fittings and a shirasaya.
Katana of the Hizen school by Harima Daijō Tadakuni, who according to the original seller received the title Harima Daijō in Kan'ei 11 (1634) and served as a retained smith of the Ogi domain. The blade has a nagasa of 75.1 cm, a sori of 0.9 cm, a motohaba of 3.09 cm and a sakihaba of 2.33 cm. The original seller describes a ko-nie midare-ba with ko-ashi, sunagashi and kinsuji, and a well-forged ko-itame jigane with ji-nie and tobiyaki; the photographs show a midare hamon with hardened spots above the line. The tang is ubu with one mekugi-ana and bears the signature 肥前播磨大掾藤原忠国 (Hizen Harima Daijō Fujiwara Tadakuni). The original seller describes the blade as healthy. The mounting has a tsuka with teal ito over white same, an iron tsuba with gold peonies, floral fuchi-kashira and a red lacquered saya; the original seller states the fittings are by Sendai metalworkers, without dating the mounting. It comes with a shirasaya and NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken papers.
