Katana by Osafune Shichirōemon no Jō Sukesada, a smith of the Osafune school of Bizen and one of the leading names of Sue-Bizen. The blade is shinogi-zukuri with an iori-mune and an extended chū-kissaki, with a nagasa of 70.6 cm and a sori of 1.8 cm. According to the original seller and the designation description, the jigane is itame mixed with mokume and with masame on the omote, with ji-nie and utsuri; the hamon is a hiro-suguha undulating into notare, with ashi, yō, kinsuji and sunagashi; the bōshi is ko-maru. The photographs show the engravings: Hachiman Daibosatsu (八幡大菩薩) on the omote and a bonji on the ura. The tang is ubu, with a shallow kurijiri tip, katte-sagari yasurime and a single mekugi-ana. It is signed 備前國住長船七郎衛門尉祐定 (Bizen no kuni-jū Osafune Shichirōemon no Jō Sukesada) and dated on the ura 天正二二年二月上吉日 (Tenshō ni-ni-nen nigatsu jōkichijitsu), that is, the 2nd month of Tenshō 4 (1576). It was designated Jūyō Tōken at the 24th NBTHK session on 10 July 1976; the designation description attributes it to the second generation Shichirōemon. According to the original seller, the blade is published in the Yūmei Kotō Taikan. It comes in a shirasaya with sayagaki, without mounts.

The score adds and subtracts points for each feature of the piece and has no ceiling: the highest in the catalogue today is 255. It is computed from the record, not from an opinion. The mounting starts from what is known of its period, adds what vouches for it (its own NBTHK paper, a signed fitting, a crest) and subtracts what has been restored (saya, ito, same, habaki or sageo).
