The piece
Katana signed by Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi of the Ōsaka Mishina school, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken papers and a complete koshirae with chrysanthemum fittings.
Katana by Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi, a smith of the Ōsaka Mishina school active in the first half of the Edo period. According to the original seller, he was the son of the first Ōsaka Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi and received the title Yamato no Kami; his work belongs to Ōsaka shintō. The blade has a nagasa of 70.6 cm and a sori of 1.6 cm; the photographs show an undulating notare hamon with gunome. The tang, which the photographs show intact with its original tip, has two mekugi-ana and is signed 大和守吉道 (Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi). The NBTHK certified it as 特別保存刀剣 (Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken) on 22 August 2025, number 1025164, and the paper appears in the photographs. It comes in a complete koshirae: black-lacquered saya, wrapped tsuka with chrysanthemum menuki, fuchi-kashira with chrysanthemums on a nanako ground, and a tsuba which, according to the original seller, depicts the deity Ōkuninushi with a mouse. The original seller describes the mounting without dating it and notes a couple of kitae kizu at the tip.
