Katana by the first Dewa no Kami Yukihiro, one of the most representative smiths of the Hizen school in the early Edo period. According to the original seller, he was the grandson of the first Tadayoshi and the younger brother of the first Kawachi Daijō Masahiro; he received the title Dewa Daijō in 1648 and Dewa no Kami in 1663, learned Bizen-den from the Ishidō school and carved the character 一 (ichi) above his signature, hence the name Hizen Ichimonji. The blade, in shinogi-zukuri with iori-mune and chū-kissaki, has a nagasa of 71.7 cm and a sori of 1.6 cm, with a wide motohaba of 3.24 cm. The original seller describes a tight ko-itame jigane with dense ji-nie and chikei, and a hamon of gunome and ko-notare with chōji, kinsuji and deep nie-nioi; the photographs show an undulating gunome and notare hamon of varying height. The bōshi is straight with a ko-maru turn-back, according to the original seller. The tang is ubu, with sujikai yasurime and one mekugi-ana, and is signed 一肥前国出羽守行廣 (Ichi Hizen no Kuni Dewa no Kami Yukihiro). It comes in shirasaya with a one-piece copper habaki and NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken papers attributing it to the first generation. There is no koshirae.

The score adds and subtracts points for each feature of the piece and has no ceiling: the highest in the catalogue today is 255. It is computed from the record, not from an opinion. The mounting starts from what is known of its period, adds what vouches for it (its own NBTHK paper, a signed fitting, a crest) and subtracts what has been restored (saya, ito, same, habaki or sageo).
