Katana by Iga no Kami Kanemichi, of the fifth generation according to the original seller, dated the 8th month of Tenmei 3 (1783). Shinogi-zukuri blade with a nagasa of 70.0 cm and 1.5 cm of sori; the original seller describes a gunome ō-midare hamon and a copper habaki with silver foil. Freshly polished, it is kept in shirasaya with tsunagi and comes with a period mounting that the seller describes without dating: tsuka of large-nodule white same with fine black ito, shakudō nanako fuchi-kashira with bamboo leaves and karajishi, pierced iron tsuba, polished kairagi saya and black sageo. The score adds and subtracts points for each feature of the piece and has no ceiling: the highest in the catalogue today is 255. It is computed from the record, not from an opinion. The mounting starts from what is known of its period, adds what vouches for it (its own NBTHK paper, a signed fitting, a crest) and subtracts what has been restored (saya, ito, same, habaki or sageo).
