The piece
Shintō katana by Echizen no Kami Nobuyoshi of Settsu province, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers, a complete koshirae and a shirasaya.
Katana forged by Echizen no Kami Nobuyoshi, a shintō smith of Settsu province who, according to the original seller, was the third son of the first Shinano no Kami Nobuyoshi and often worked in suguha, with pieces close to those of Inoue Shinkai. The original seller places it around the Enpō era (1673–1681). The blade has a nagasa of 67.0 cm and a sori of 1.1 cm, with standard mihaba and kasane. According to the original seller, the jigane is a fine, well-forged ko-itame and the hamon a gunome-midare with pronounced ashi; the bōshi is rounded with a turnback. The tang has two mekugi-ana and is signed beneath an engraved chrysanthemum (kiku-mon): 高井越前守源信吉 (Takai Echizen no Kami Minamoto Nobuyoshi). The original seller declares a machi-okuri of about 3 cm. Single-piece silver-foiled habaki. The blade is kept in a shirasaya with the sayagaki 在銘 高井越前守源信吉 (zaimei Takai Echizen no Kami Minamoto Nobuyoshi) and comes with a koshirae: round iron tsuba with a daikon radish motif, shakudō nanako fuchi-kashira with waterside birds in gold iroe, bird menuki and a black ishime lacquered saya. NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken papers.

The score adds and subtracts points for each feature of the piece and has no ceiling: the highest in the catalogue today is 255. It is computed from the record, not from an opinion. The mounting starts from what is known of its period, adds what vouches for it (its own NBTHK paper, a signed fitting, a crest) and subtracts what has been restored (saya, ito, same, habaki or sageo).
