The piece
Ōsaka katana signed Yamato no Kami Kunihide, the earlier signature of Ise no Kami Kuniteru, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers, koshirae and shirasaya.
Katana signed 大和守国英 (Yamato no Kami Kunihide), a name the NBTHK paper identifies as the earlier signature of Ise no Kami Kuniteru, an Ōsaka smith of the Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke school. According to the original seller, he was the fourth son of Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke, received the title Ise Daijō in Kanbun 11 (1671), and the blade belongs to the Jōkyō era (1684). The blade measures 72.1 cm according to the paper; the listing gives a sori of 1.4 cm, a motohaba of 3.16 cm and a sakihaba of 2.17 cm. The photographs show an undulating notare hamon with gunome passages. The tang, with a single mekugi-ana, appears intact in the photographs and carries the signature on the omote. It comes with an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken certificate dated Reiwa 1 (2019). It is presented in shirasaya and with a koshirae: a dark ribbed lacquered saya, an iron mokkō-shaped tsuba with plant relief, and a tsuka wrapped in black ito over same with gilt menuki. The original seller neither describes nor dates the mounting.

The score adds and subtracts points for each feature of the piece and has no ceiling: the highest in the catalogue today is 255. It is computed from the record, not from an opinion. The mounting starts from what is known of its period, adds what vouches for it (its own NBTHK paper, a signed fitting, a crest) and subtracts what has been restored (saya, ito, same, habaki or sageo).
