The piece

Shakudō nanako kozuka with fish and a shrimp in takabori and gold and copper iroe, signed on the reverse 後藤光孝 (Gotō Mitsutaka) with his kaō.

Kozuka signed by Gotō Mitsutaka (1722–1784), thirteenth head of the main Gotō line according to the original seller, who succeeded his father Mitsumasa in 1741 and faithfully maintained the traditional style of the house. The front, in shakudō with a fine and even nanako ground, carries a frieze of fish of varied forms in takabori: a red copper fish, several dark shakudō fish, a small fish and a shrimp in gold, and an elongated fish also in gold, with scales, eyes and fins detailed in kebori. The frame and the reverse have a gilt finish; on the reverse, worked with diagonal striations, the photographs show the engraved signature 後藤光孝 (Gotō Mitsutaka) followed by the kaō. In the photographs the condition is good: crisp nanako, reliefs with their full modelling and gold intact on the high points, with no visible knocks or rust. The original seller declares an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon certificate, which does not appear in the photographs. Declared dimensions: 9.75 × 1.48 cm.
