Description
Fuchi-kashira of the Nara line, signed 法眼安親 (Hōgen Yasuchika) with kaō on the copper plate of the fuchi. The theme is a flock of chidori (plovers) in flight, scattered freely across the kashira and around the fuchi. The ground is shibuichi worked in very fine, even nanako, which also covers the edges. The birds are carved in takabori with inlays of black shakudō, gold and touches of silver, with gold eyes and plumage detailed in kebori; the kashira has gilt shitodome. The photographs show crisp nanako, complete inlays without loss of gold and a natural-toned patina. The interiors show wear scratches and, on the copper plate of the fuchi, small spots of verdigris. The NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu paper, dated 2021, describes the piece as a chidori fuchi-kashira in shibuichi nanako with takabori and zōgan iroe, and accepts the signature. The original seller dates it to the late Edo period and supplies it in a paulownia box.
