Mokkō-shaped shibuichi tsuba with a landscape of Mount Fuji and the Tōkai coast in relief and colour inlay, signed Yasunori with kaō and accompanied by an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper.

Description

Mokkō tsuba of four-lobed shape, signed 安則（花押） (Yasunori kaō) on the seppa-dai of the front face, beside the central opening. The paper titles it 富嶽東海風景図鐔 (Fugaku Tōkai fūkei-zu tsuba), a landscape of the Tōkai coast with Mount Fuji in the distance. On a polished shibuichi ground (migaki-ji), the scene is carved in sukidashi-bori relief and enriched with zōgan iroe. Fuji's snowy summit is in silver, the pines in shakudō with gold trunks, a three-storey pagoda in red copper, and the roofs have gold highlights. Boats and birds complete the view. The reverse continues with bands of mist cut in fine strokes, hills and two rows of pines. The rim is sukinokoshi-mimi, left standing when the field was cut back. The photographs show a dark patina on the rim and a lighter tone in the field, with no cracks, knocks or missing inlay. The seppa-dai shows the usual mounting marks, and there are one or two isolated greenish specks. There is a single hitsu-ana. The NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu paper, no. 2002101 of January 2015, accepts the signature. The original seller places it in the late Edo period and gives 67.3 × 59.7 mm, with a thickness of 3 mm at the seppa-dai.
