Description
An unsigned (mumei) fuchi-kashira attributed by the NBTHK papers to the Kaga kinkō school, the metalworkers of the Kaga domain. The design is a torn fishing net (hamō-zu), a subject with poetic overtones: the meshes, some in gold and some in silver, are laid out in relief (takabori) with colour inlay (iroe) over a shakudō ground with a granular stone-like texture (ishime). Both pieces are edged with a twisted gold cord; the fuchi retains its copper plate (tenjōgane) and the kashira its inner copper tabs. The photographs show deep black shakudō with some greyer areas from handling, and the gold and silver fully intact, with no visible knocks, losses or rust. The Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu paper, no. 2010945, dated 26 September 2024, describes it as 破網図縁頭 (hamō-zu fuchigashira) and 赤銅石目地 (shakudō ishime-ji), 高彫 (takabori), 色絵 (iroe). According to the original seller, the fuchi measures 4.07 × 2.60 cm and the kashira 3.66 × 1.95 cm, and it comes in a paulownia box.
