The piece

Shakudō kozuka with a mon of daikon radishes in solid high relief on a nanako ground, attributed to the Ko-Gotō school; the mon comes from a late Muromachi kōgai.

Unsigned kozuka attributed by the original seller to the Ko-Gotō school, the earliest Gotō generations. The mon depicts daikon radishes with their leaves, carved in solid, voluminous takabori on a shakudō plate with an evenly granulated nanako ground; the reverse is plain shakudō. The photographs show a deep, even black shakudō on both the mon and the body, a sign of good-quality material. According to the original seller, this is a kōgai-naoshi: the mon belonged to a late Muromachi kōgai and was converted into a kozuka, probably in the early to mid Edo period, which accounts for its weight (33.32 g) and its strong relief. It measures 9.76 × 1.46 cm. Wear has polished the high points and almost erased the engraved veins of the leaves, while the nanako remains crisp. The original seller declares an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper and a paulownia box; the paper does not appear in the photographs.
