The piece

Shakudō kozuka with a nanako ground and a single arrowhead (yajiri) in takabori with silver iroe, attributed to Gotō Teijō, ninth master of the main Gotō line.

Kozuka from the main Gotō line, unsigned by its maker and attributed to Gotō Teijō, ninth head of the house. On the reverse the photographs show an engraved attribution inscription, 程乗作光寿 (Teijō saku Mitsutoshi) followed by a kaō, by which the eleventh head, Gotō Tsūjō (Mitsutoshi), recognised the piece as Teijō's work. The face, in shakudō with a fine and regular nanako, carries a single arrowhead (yajiri) in takabori at its centre: the twisted shaft in shakudō and the point in silver iroe, crisply outlined and with good volume. The ura-ita combines shakudō and gold in kezuri-tsugi, an echo of Momoyama taste. The photographs show an even black shakudō patina, intact nanako and gold without visible losses; only light wear from use can be seen. According to the original seller it measures 95.5 × 14.5 mm, is kept in a kiri box and holds an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu paper, which does not appear in the photographs.
