Description

Fuchi-kashira on the theme 藻鯉図 (mogoi-zu), carp among river weeds, an auspicious subject linked to strength and prosperity. On a suaka (copper) ground worked in ishime, each piece carries a carp in high relief in a black metal with the look of shakudō, its scales chiselled one by one and its eyes in gold; the weeds are inlaid in gold and continue round the back of the fuchi, while small white-metal bubbles are scattered across the ground. The paper describes it as 素銅石目地 象嵌色絵 (suaka ishime-ji zōgan iroe). The signature, 志田政寿 (Shida Masatoshi) with kaō, is engraved on the inner plate of the fuchi. The photographs show a warm, natural brown patina, complete gold and only light rubbing on the kashira top and the edges. It comes with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu papers issued in 2019, which accept the signature, and is presented in a fabric-lined paulownia box.
