Description

Unsigned kozuka attributed by its NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu paper to Gotō Eijō, sixth head of the main Gotō line, active from the late Muromachi to the early Edo period. The subject, titled on the paper 軍旗采配図 (gunki saihai-zu), shows fluttering military banners and a saihai, the general's command baton, with its tassel and cords. The photographs show the banners carved in silver with small chiselled floral motifs and the tassel and cords in gold, all in high relief on a fine, even shakudō nanako ground, as the paper summarises: shakudō nanako-ji, takabori, gold and silver iroe. The reverse is plain shakudō. The photographs show good condition: intact nanako, gold and silver preserved on the high points and no visible knocks. The paper, number 227992, is dated 2007. The original seller gives dimensions of 9.69 × 1.40 cm and states that it comes in a paulownia box.
