The piece

Shakudō kozuka with a nanako ground and Hotei reclining on his sack in high relief with gold and silver, signed Gotō Renjō according to the original seller, with a declared Tokubetsu Hozon paper.

Kozuka attributed by its signature to Gotō Renjō, tenth master of the main line of the Gotō school, the workshop that set the canon for formal court fittings throughout the Edo period. According to the original seller, the reverse bears the master's own signature with his kaō; the photographs show only the front. The subject is Hotei, the laughing monk of Zen tradition, reclining on his large sack with his belly bare and a faint smile; the original seller specifies that he is gazing at the moon. The figure is carved in takabori on a shakudō nanako ground of fine, very even granules, with the body in silver and the sack and robes in gold (iroe), and a shakudō staff accompanied by gilt leaves. The sack carries a finely engraved pattern. The photographs show crisp nanako, intact edges and gold on the high points without visible loss, with no knocks or rust. It measures 97 mm in length by 14.5 mm in width, according to the original seller, and comes in a fitted paulownia (kiri) box; the listing does not mention a hakogaki. The original seller declares an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper, which does not appear in the photographs.
