Uda
宇多派 (Uda-ha)
The school that took the Yamato style to Etchū: Uda Kunimitsu and his line, active from the Nanbokuchō period to the end of Edo.
Style and characteristics
An itame jigane with masame, in which Yamato shows, and a nie suguha or notare with gunome, sometimes with something of the strength of Norishige and Gō, its Etchū neighbours. Many blades are unsigned and attributed to the school.
History
It was founded by Kunimitsu, who according to tradition left Uda district to work in Etchū; his followers repeated the character «kuni» in their names: Kunimune, Kunifusa, Kunihisa. The school remained active for centuries in Etchū, its Muromachi work being known as Sue-Uda.
