Aoe Tsuguyoshi

次吉 (Tsuguyoshi)

A smith of the Aoe school, in Bitchū, of the Nanbokuchō; his designated tachi, of 1346, is listed as of unknown whereabouts.

Profile

Tsuguyoshi (次吉) signed as a resident of Bitchū province. Japanese Wikipedia counts him among the representatives of Sue-Aoe, the last phase of the Aoe school, although on another of its pages it places him among those of Chū-Aoe, the middle phase; the classification is not certain. His known dated work is a tachi of the tenth month of the second year of Jōwa (貞和), 1346, designated an important cultural property in 1955, which the Agency for Cultural Affairs gave in 2017 as of unknown whereabouts.

The Kotō Taikan reproduces his signature on several plates. He should not be confused with a modern smith of the same name.
