Harima Daijō Shigetaka

播磨大掾重高 (Harima Daijō Shigetaka)

Lineage: the signature does not state the generation

A line of Echizen smiths of the Edo period; the first generation is listed as wazamono in the 1797 ranking by cutting quality.

Profile

Harima Daijō Shigetaka (播磨大掾重高) is the name signed by a line of Echizen smiths during the Edo period; Harima Daijō is an honorary title, not the place where they worked. The Kaihō Kenjaku, the ranking of blades by cutting quality published in 1797 by the Yamada house, which carried out the shogunate's cutting tests, lists the first generation (shodai) among the wazamono, the fourth of its four grades.
