Higashiyama Yoshihira

東山美平 (Higashiyama Yoshihira)

Lineage: the signature does not state the generation

Name of a shintō-period smith who signs as a resident of Higashiyama; he appears in Tomita Kiyama’s classification of shintō smiths.

Profile

Yoshihira (美平) is the name of a shintō-period smith, which one or several generations may have used. One blade is signed 東山住美平 (Higashiyama-jū Yoshihira), by which he declares himself a resident of Higashiyama (東山). Tomita Kiyama lists him as “Higashiyama ju Yoshihira” in his classification of shintō smiths, which, as the index that reproduces it warns, is more a list of smiths than a classification by their quality. The signature does not state the generation, and the reference works consulted record nothing more about him.
