Lineage: the signature does not state the generation

An Echizen lineage of smiths of the Edo period, of the Echizen-Seki branch; Hōki no Kami Hirotaka is one of the representative names of the province's shintō.

Profile

Hōki no Kami Fujiwara Hirotaka worked in Echizen in the line that came from the Seki smiths of Mino. He first received the title Hōki Daijō and later that of Hōki no Kami. His output was large, and his blades, signed or attributed, are often seen; he is held to be one of the smiths who best represent Echizen shintō. The Yamada cutting list includes him among the wazamono.
