Hisakatsu

久勝 (Hisakatsu)

Lineage: the signature does not state the generation

Name of a smith of the Akasaka Senjuin school, in Mino, known through his signature; one blade is dated Eishō 10 (1513).

Profile

Hisakatsu (久勝) is the name of a smith of the Akasaka Senjuin school, in Mino, which one or several generations may have used. One blade is signed 濃州草道嶋菅原尉久勝作 (probable reading: Nōshū Sōdōjima Sugawara no Jō Hisakatsu saku), by which he declares himself from Nōshū (濃州), that is, from Mino, and is dated 永正十年十月吉日 (Eishō jūnen jūgatsu kichijitsu), the tenth month of Eishō 10 (1513), toward the end of the Muromachi period. The signature does not say which generation he belongs to, and the reference works consulted record nothing more about him.
