Izumi no Kami Kanesada

和泉守兼定 (Izumi no Kami Kanesada)

A Seki smith in Mino of the late 15th and early 16th centuries, the second Kanesada, called Nosada; with Magoroku Kanemoto the great name of Mino in his day.

Profile

Kanesada, the second of the name at Seki, is known as Nosada because in his signature the character «sada» seems to hold a «no». Adopted son and pupil of the first Kanesada, he worked from the 1470s into the 1520s. Between 1508 and 1511 he received the title Izumi no Kami, thought to be for forging for the Ise shrine. He is held the finest Mino smith of his time, on a par with Magoroku Kanemoto. The Kokon Kaji Bikō of 1830 ranks him saijō ō-wazamono. The name Izumi no Kami Kanesada was later also used by the Aizu Kanesada in the 19th century.
