Izumi no Kami Kunisada
和泉守国貞 (Izumi no Kami Kunisada)
First generation (shodai)
A Hyūga smith settled in Osaka (1590-1652), a pupil of Horikawa Kunihiro and father of Inoue Shinkai; one of the founders of Ōsaka shintō.
Profile
Kunisada, surnamed Inoue, was born in 1590 in Hyūga and learned in Kyoto from Horikawa Kunihiro, though one tradition makes him a pupil of Echigo no Kami Kunitomo. He moved to Osaka and served Itō Sukehisa, lord of Obi, in his native province. He signed «Izumi no Kami Fujiwara Kunisada»; to distinguish him from his son, who used the same name before calling himself Shinkai, he is called Oya Kunisada. In his last years his son was already working for him. He took the religious name Dōwa and died in 1652. The Kaihō Kenjaku of 1797 ranks him ō-wazamono.
