Profile

Jumyō (寿命), a name also read Toshinaga (としなが), was borne by at least two smiths of the early Edo period, and the signature alone does not say to which of them each blade belongs. The Nihon Jinmei Daijiten+Plus records both. The first (1579-1663), born in Tenshō 7, lived in Mino (美濃) and, after a stay in Kiyosu (清洲), in Owari (尾張), moved to Nagoya in 1628 (Kan’ei 5); he received the title Tango no Kami (丹後守) and died in Kanbun 3, aged 85. The second (1620-1703), born in Genna 6, received the rank of Hōkyō (法橋) in Tenna 3, used the name Kōansai (弘安斎) and died in Genroku 16, aged 84.
