Kaneuji
兼氏 (Kaneuji)
A smith who moved from Yamato to Shizu in Mino between the late Kamakura and the Nanbokuchō periods; founder of the Shizu school and the origin of the Mino tradition.
Profile
Kaneuji came from the Tegai school of Yamato, where he signed with a different character for «Kane», and settled at Shizu in the Tagi district of Mino, so he is called Shizu Saburō. Tradition counts him among Masamune's «ten pupils», and in his work the Yamato base joins the nie and midare of Sōshū-den. According to a biographical dictionary, a work from his last years bears the date 1343. His followers, who moved to Naoe, form the Naoe-Shizu group, and the tradition of the Mino smiths starts from his manner.
