Niō Masakiyo

Profile

Niō Masakiyo is a smith of the Niō school of Nagato, Edo period, of whom little more is known than what a blade of his says. It is dated to the eighth month of Enpō 9 (1681) and carries on the tang the inscription of a cutting test, 大車於眼前切断之 (ōguruma ganzen ni oite kore o setsudan su). The reference works consulted do not record his training or his teacher.
