Sa Sadayoshi

左貞吉 (Sa Sadayoshi)

A smith of the Sa school of Chikuzen, of the Nanbokuchō period; a tachi once attributed to him is now more probably by Ayanokōji Sadayoshi.

Profile

Sa Sadayoshi (左貞吉) is one of the smiths of the Sa school, that of Samonji in Chikuzen, on the island of Kyūshū. A tachi signed Sadayoshi (定吉), an important cultural property, used to be attributed to the Sadayoshi of the Sa school; according to Markus Sesko, its ji, its ha and its signature make it more probably the work of Ayanokōji Sadayoshi, of Yamashiro. He is not to be confused with Yoshisada (吉貞), another Sa smith whose name uses the same characters in the other order.
