Profile
Sadatsugu (貞次) is a name of the Shimosaka (下坂派) school of Echizen. The smith recorded in the dictionary, from the early Edo period, worked around the Kan'ei era (1624-1644); he first used the title Hyūga Daijō (日向大掾) and later Hyūga no Kami (日向守), and signed, among other forms, 越前住日向守藤原貞次 (Echizen-jū Hyūga no Kami Fujiwara Sadatsugu). His descendants inherited the name for three generations. One blade is signed 越前国下坂貞次 (Echizen no Kuni Shimosaka Sadatsugu), without a title, and does not say which generation it belongs to.
