Higo no Kami Teruhiro
肥後守輝広 (Higo no Kami Teruhiro)
A Keichō-era smith from Mino who served Fukushima Masanori in Hiroshima and founded the Teruhiro of Aki, smiths of the Asano house; by tradition, he trained in the school of Umetada Myōju.
Profile
Teruhiro came from Mino and, according to the tradition recorded by the NBTHK, later studied in the school of Umetada Myōju in Kyoto, as did his son-in-law, the second Teruhiro. He served Fukushima Masanori and followed him when his lord moved from Owari to Hiroshima, in Aki; after the fall of the Fukushima, the Teruhiro entered the service of the Asano, who kept them as smiths until the end of the Edo period. He signed Higo no Kami Fujiwara Teruhiro. In Aki there were more than ten smiths with that name. Few of his blades survive: wide shapes, tight ko-itame with nagare and a clear, bright notare. The Yamada cutting list includes Higo no Kami Teruhiro among the wazamono.
