Shintō-period katana signed 近江守源久道 (Ōmi no Kami Minamoto Hisamichi), of the Mishina school of Yamashiro, with a chrysanthemum spray engraved on the tang, Tokubetsu Hozon paper and a black-lacquered mounting.
Katana by Ōmi no Kami Hisamichi, a smith of the Mishina school in Yamashiro province, from the Shintō period. The blade measures 70 cm in nagasa with 1.55 cm of sori, 3.32 cm wide at the base and 2.36 cm at the point, and 0.75 cm thick. The photographs show a shinogi-zukuri blade with a medium kissaki and a broadly undulating notare hamon over a visibly grained jigane. The tang keeps its original end, its file marks and a single mekugi-ana; the omote bears the signature 近江守源久道 (Ōmi no Kami Minamoto Hisamichi) and, beside the hole, an engraved chrysanthemum on its stem, the 枝菊紋 (edakiku-mon) mentioned by the original seller. According to the original seller, the blade holds an NBTHK 特別保存刀剣 (Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken) paper and an older 甲種特別貴重刀剣 (Kōshu Tokubetsu Kichō Tōken) paper; neither appears in the photographs. It comes in a mounting with a tsuka wrapped in black over pale same, a round tsuba and a black-lacquered saya, with a crest on the fuchi; the listing neither describes nor dates it.
