The piece
Katana signed 大和守安定 (Yamato no Kami Yasusada), an Edo smith of the Keian era, with NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers, a black-lacquered mounting bearing a family crest, and a shirasaya.
Katana by Yamato no Kami Yasusada, a smith established in Edo, Musashi province, whom the original seller places around the Keian era (1648–1652), early in the Edo period. According to the original seller, the smith came from Echizen and trained in the circle of the first Yasutsugu. The blade measures 71.1 cm in nagasa with 0.9 cm of sori, a motohaba of 2.92 cm and a sakihaba of 1.98 cm; the photographs show a shinogi-zukuri blade with an undulating hamon. The tang is suriage, with three mekugi-ana, and retains the signature 大和守安定 (Yamato no Kami Yasusada). The NBTHK awarded it Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken papers on 28 June 2013, visible in the photographs. It comes with an uchigatana koshirae with a black-wrapped tsuka, an iron tsuba and a black ishime-lacquered saya bearing the repeated maru ni mitsu-gashiwa crest, together with a plain wooden shirasaya.
