Katana signed and dated by Miyoshi Izu no Kami Minamoto Naokuni, a Settsu smith in the Ōsaka tradition. According to the original seller, Naokuni trained under Sukenao and thus descends within the school of the celebrated Sukehiro; reference works place him as active from the Kyōhō era, so this 1798 blade would be the work of a long-lived smith. Shinogi-zukuri with iori-mune, little taper between base and tip and an extended chū-kissaki; nagasa 67.8 cm, sori 1.78 cm. The photographs show a gunome midare hamon on a notare base, with ashi; the seller describes a ko-itame jigane mixed with mokume and masame, with ō-hada in places, ko-nie, kinsuji and sunagashi, and a straight bōshi, round on the omote and ō-maru close to yakizume on the ura. Ubu nakago with one mekugi-ana, signed 三好伊豆守源直國 (Miyoshi Izu no Kami Minamoto Naokuni) and dated 寛政十年八月日 (Kansei jūnen hachigatsu hi). It comes with a period uchigatana koshirae: black lacquered saya with shibuichi koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri, angular oni-nanako fuchi-kashira and an iron tsuba engraved with Niō figures, together with a shirasaya with tsunagi and two habaki.
