The piece
Katana signed by Ōmi Daijō Tadahiro, second master of the Hizen school, with an ubu tang, kept in shirasaya and with Tokubetsu Hozon papers declared by the original seller.
Katana by the second master of the Hizen school, eldest son of the first Tadayoshi, who according to the original seller received the title Ōmi Daijō in 1641 and worked until his death in 1693. The tang is signed on the omote 肥前國住近江大掾藤原忠廣 (Hizen no kuni-jū Ōmi Daijō Fujiwara Tadahiro). The blade, with a nagasa of 69.08 cm and a sori of 1.82 cm, is shinogi-zukuri with an iori-mune, a high shinogi and a chū-kissaki. The original seller describes a tight ko-itame jigane with thick ji-nie, a chū-suguha hamon gently undulating with small gunome and ashi, a deep nioiguchi with bright ko-nie, and a straight bōshi turning back in ko-maru. The photographs show the ubu tang, with kiri yasurime, a pointed tip and a single mekugi-ana. The original seller presents it as a typical work of the smith, following the style of the first Tadayoshi, and declares its condition as good. It is kept in shirasaya with its cloth bag and a gold-foiled copper double habaki with sayagata pattern, visible in the photographs; there is no koshirae. The original seller declares NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken papers issued in 2022 and the blade's registration.

The score adds and subtracts points for each feature of the piece and has no ceiling: the highest in the catalogue today is 255. It is computed from the record, not from an opinion. The mounting starts from what is known of its period, adds what vouches for it (its own NBTHK paper, a signed fitting, a crest) and subtracts what has been restored (saya, ito, same, habaki or sageo).
