Katana signed 大法師法橋来金道 (Daihōshi Hokkyō Rai Kinmichi), which the original seller attributes to the second generation of the Rai Kinmichi line of Kyoto, a branch of the Mishina school, and places around the Keian era (1648). The title 法橋 (hokkyō) is an honorific rank of Buddhist origin. The blade measures 60.6 cm with 1.6 cm of sori; it shows a marked taper from base to point, a slightly extended chū-kissaki and bōhi with soe-hi ending in rounded terminations. According to the original seller, the jigane is itame tending to masame, with abundant ji-nie and chikei, and the hamon starts in suguha and continues in gunome mixed with notare, with a very bright nioiguchi and sunagashi of coarse nie; the photographs show this undulating line along the blade. The tang is ubu, with one mekugi-ana. It comes with an uchigatana koshirae with a brown lacquered saya carved in rings (inrō-kizami), a tsuka with light-coloured ito, an iron tsuba with a dragon among clouds and a kashira with a gold carp, as well as shirasaya, tsunagi and copper habaki.
