Katana by Osafune Tsuramitsu, a Bizen smith of the late fifteenth century with very few known works; according to the original seller, the calligraphy of his signature is almost identical to that of Ukyō no Suke Katsumitsu, which suggests a link between the two. The blade is shinogi-zukuri with iori-mune, chū-kissaki and a deep sori: 64.5 cm nagasa and 2.9 cm sori, with bō-hi and soe-hi on both sides ending in kaku-dome. The original seller describes a tightly forged ko-itame with ji-nie and a suguha-based hamon with ko-gunome and kuichigai-ba, ashi and yō, in ko-nie. The tang is ubu, with a ha-agari kurijiri, katte-sagari yasurime and two mekugi-ana. On the omote, the signature 備前国住長船貫光 (Bizen no kuni-jū Osafune Tsuramitsu) beside the invocation 八幡大菩薩 (Hachiman Daibosatsu); on the ura, 主藤原若宮 (probable reading: nushi Fujiwara Wakamiya) and the date 長享三年八月日 (Chōkyō sannen hachigatsu hi). It carries NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper and is published in the Fujishiro Meitō Zukan and the Nihon Tōkō Jiten, Kotō-hen, whose pages are reproduced. It comes with a one-piece gilt habaki and an itomaki no tachi koshirae: kin-nashiji saya with gold kiri crests, silver fittings chiselled with chrysanthemums and kiri menuki.
