Description
Unsigned kozuka which the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper attributes to 程乗 (Teijō), a master of the main line of the Gotō school in the early Edo period; according to the original seller, he was the son of Kenjō and became head of the house in 1636. The subject, titled on the paper 乗鶴仙人図 (probable reading: jōkaku sennin-zu), shows a sennin, a Taoist immortal, riding a crane in flight. The motif is worked in takabori over a shakudō nanako ground of fine, very even granulation, with gold touches on the beak, legs and robes (iroe); the reverse is a plain plate. The photographs show crisp nanako, well-preserved gilding and only light rubbing on the reverse. It comes in a paulownia wood box with no visible inscription.
