The piece

Shibuichi kozuka signed Eiju with kaō, showing a shishi beside a waterfall in Yokoya-style katakiribori and kebori.

Shibuichi kozuka signed on the reverse 永寿 (Eiju) followed by his kaō. According to the original seller, Eiju, family name Katsura, trained under Yokoya Eisei and was a pupil of the second Sōyo, later working as a retained craftsman of the Arima house. The front shows the theme of the shishi by the waterfall (瀧獅子図, taki shishi zu): rocks and falling water, clouds and waves rendered in katakiribori in the Yokoya manner, which gives the landscape depth, and a shishi whose swirling mane and fur are worked in fine kebori. The plain reverse carries the cleanly engraved signature. The photographs show an even dark grey patina, with no rust or knocks, some light surface scratches and slight rubbing on the plain areas. Stated dimensions: 9.7 × 1.5 cm. The original seller states an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu paper, which does not appear in the photographs.
