The piece
Shakudō nanako fuchi-kashira with deer in an autumn field in takabori and rich gold iroe, signed 美濃住光伸 (Mino-jū Mitsunobu), of the Mino-bori school.
Fuchi-kashira signed on the copper plate of the fuchi 美濃住光伸 (Mino-jū Mitsunobu), an artist presented by the original seller as a representative of mid-Edo Mino-bori. The theme is deer in an autumn field: on the kashira, three deer among chrysanthemums and leaves; on the fuchi, deer running and resting among flowers. The figures, in high takabori over a recessed shakudō ground with fine nanako, are covered in rich gold iroe, with the fur rendered in kebori and the spots punched; the rims of the fuchi are gilt. The photographs show good condition: the gold keeps its lustre, with small losses on the gilt rim of the fuchi and on some high points of the kashira. Dimensions according to the original seller: fuchi 38.5 mm, kashira 33.6 mm. It comes in a kiri box with a hakogaki by Hasegawa Kikuō dated 大正十年 (Taishō jūnen, 1921). The original seller declares an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper, which does not appear in the photographs.
