The piece

Shakudō ishime fuchi-kashira with a wild lily and birds in high relief, gold outlines and graded shippō enamel, signed by Mōri Minenori with kaō.

Fuchi-kashira signed on the tenjōgane of the fuchi 毛利峯則 (Mōri Minenori) followed by his 花押 (kaō), as the photographs show. According to the original seller, Minenori came from Bizen province and was connected with Mōri Mitsunori, a pupil of Yanagawa Naomitsu. The subject is a wild lily (yamayuri) in bloom attracting small birds: the flower, leaves and a bird in flight occupy the kashira, while the stem and buds run around the fuchi and a second bird appears on its side. On a shakudō ground with granular ishime finish, the motifs are carved in high relief (takabori), outlined in gold and covered with translucent 七宝 (shippō) enamel in speckled cream, green and blue, with an unusual colour gradation. The tenjōgane is copper. The photographs show an even black patina, intact enamels and gilding, and only fine scratches on the copper tenjōgane. The original seller declares NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon papers and a fitted paulownia box; the paper does not appear in the photographs. Declared dimensions: fuchi 37.8 mm, kashira 33.6 mm.
