The piece

Polished shibuichi kozuka with Shōki in katakiribori, signed Yasuchika and attributed by the original seller to the fourth generation of the Tsuchiya line.

Shibuichi kozuka with a polished ground (migaki-ji). The front shows Shōki, the demon queller, standing with his cap, bristling beard and a sword in hand, drawn in confident katakiribori and finished with fine kebori lines; the figure is cut off by the edge, leaving a broad empty field above, a composition typical of the Nara manner. The back bears three bundles of wavy vertical strokes engraved in kebori and the signature 安親 (Yasuchika). The original seller attributes the piece to Yasuchika IV, Tsuchiya Eishū, pupil of the third generation and heir to the name in the Tsuchiya family, a native of Hitachi province. The photographs show a sound surface, free of rust or knocks, with some fine scratches and light patina spots. It measures 9.7 × 1.5 cm and comes with a padded kiri box. The original seller declares an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu paper, which does not appear in the photographs.
