The piece

Mokkō-shaped tsuba attributed to the Yasuda school, with eight kikyō-mon in high relief over a karakusa ground; the original seller states an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper.

A four-lobed mokkō-shaped tsuba presented by the original seller as a work of the Yasuda school (安田, Yasuda), active in Musashi province. The design repeats eight kikyō-mon, the five-petalled bellflower crest, carved in takabori and evenly spaced around the rim. Between them runs a karakusa scroll in low relief on a finely grained ground, while the seppa-dai is left plain and polished. The metal is a deep, even black. The photographs show the piece in good condition: crisp relief, with no visible rust or knocks; one of the two hitsu-ana carries a dark metal plug, the other remains open. The original seller describes it as signed and states an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper, which does not appear in the photographs.
