Okayama Tōshirō

岡山藤四郎 (Okayama Tōshirō)

A tantō by Tōshirō Yoshimitsu named after Kobayakawa Hideaki, lord of Okayama castle; it is listed in the Kyōhō meibutsuchō.

History

It is the work of Awataguchi Yoshimitsu, called Tōshirō, and bears his two-character signature. The name does not mean it was forged in Okayama: Yoshimitsu worked in Kyoto, and the tantō took the name from Kobayakawa Hideaki, who owned it when he was lord of Okayama castle in Bizen. It is listed in the Kyōhō meibutsuchō and is kept at the Tokyo National Museum.
