Mihara

三原派 (Mihara-ha)

The Bingo school of Yamato roots: sober blades with masame and suguha, from the Ko-Mihara of the Kamakura period to the Mihara of the Muromachi.

Style and characteristics

An itame jigane with masame, sometimes slightly soft-looking, and a nie suguha or ko-midare hamon with hotsure. Practical-looking blades bearing the marks of Yamato.

History

Ko-Mihara, from the late Kamakura to the Nanbokuchō period, with Masaie and Masahiro as its main names, is distinguished from the Mihara of the Muromachi period, with wider production. The name Masaie was handed down for generations. The Hokke school, also of Bingo, shares its style.
