Profile

Ozaki Suketaka lived from 1753 to 1805, according to Markus Sesko, who counts him among the masters of the Ōsaka shintō for the fineness of his jihada, sometimes described as nashiji. The NBTHK names him among the shinshintō smiths who recreated the tōran-ba of Tsuda Sukehiro and writes that his blades follow Sukehiro's pattern of waves, with square valleys in the midare and a dense nioiguchi. Sesko also tells that the lord of Tokushima sent his smiths to Edo to study with masters such as Suishinshi Masahide and Ozaki Suketaka. He is not on the wazamono lists: the Ōsaka Suketaka on those lists is a different smith.
