The piece
Shakudō tsuba with a landscape of pavilions and mountains in takabori on an ishime ground, signed 蟻行子源長美 (Gigyōshi Minamoto no Nagayoshi) with an inlaid gold kaō.
Tate-maru-gata tsuba of the Ichinomiya school, signed 蟻行子源長美 (Gigyōshi Minamoto no Nagayoshi) beside the central opening, with an inlaid gold kaō. According to the original seller, Nagayoshi studied under Nagatsune, who adopted him, and became the second master of the Ichinomiya house, active in Yamashiro and Settsu provinces. The subject is a 楼閣山水図 (rōkaku sansui-zu), a landscape with pavilions: on the obverse, a mountain, a thatched pavilion among pines, a house, a tree and a boat with its fisherman; on the reverse, the mountain, rocks with a tree and water drawn in kebori lines. The metal, described in the listing as shakudō of the highest quality, has a fine ishime ground from which the takabori reliefs rise; the original seller also points to subtle touches of coloured metals in hira-zōgan on the rocks. Both hitsu-ana are lined with gold. It measures 70.3 × 66 mm, 4.9 mm thick at the seppa-dai. The photographs show a clean surface with no visible rust or knocks. The seller declares an NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon paper and a fitted paulownia box; the paper does not appear in the photographs.
