Both pieces are tate-maru-gata in shakudō with a polished ground (migaki-ji), decorated in takabori with iroe and gold and silver zōgan on themes from the poetry of Li Bai, according to the original seller: on the large tsuba, the moon over the mountains from the poem Seiyashi, with two figures on a bridge, pines with golden crowns and water engraved in fine kebori lines; on the small one, the poet before the waterfall of Mount Lu, a cascade of silver beside a golden pine. The reverses continue the landscape with pines, a mountain and clouds in relief. The photographs show clean surfaces, free of rust and knocks, with the gold intact and only light handling marks on the reverses.
